Wash had been rather content staring at the blood splattered across his shirt and the vast blackness where answers she be that it brought with him when a foreign voice cut into his train of thought...or well more like a train of confusion. Where there were no answers there really couldn;t be thought.
“Oh my - Wash!”
Tensing immedaitely Wash's wide eyes darted up towards the stranger and the very next second the woman who had joined them in the cargo bay of the ship fell into place within his life.
Inara.
“Zoe – what -? Tsai boo shr!”
Wash knew her; had for a long while now and where a moment ago there had been nothing but a stranger now was all the facts and memories about her that he had gathered over the years of knowing the Companion. Even though it was comforting to get these pieces of memories back Wash still held himself extremley tense and ever so close to Zoe. The world around him wasn't right to begin with and now it was just adding insult to injury and he felt safe near her...as if she was the only solid thing holding it all together.
As long as he stuck by her it would all fall into place.
"I don't know. Help me get him inside so I can find out."
Wash flinched ever so slightly in response to her words; every time she explained that she didn;t know he panicked slightly. One of them was going to have to know something though witht eh sight of blood upon him Wash was starting to worry that when they did find out what it was it would ruin everything. He couldn't help but wonder if maybe it was best not to know.
Eyeing the rest of the ship behind Inara Wash felt uneasy and yet the same time a part of him wanted to feel comfortable...needed to feel at home but he couldn't allow that...there was too much at stake.

Still holding her hands to her mouth in shock, Inara’s widened eyes took in the sight of Wash and she couldn’t help but feel terrified. Death, to her, was the scariest thing of all, and she had worried for the longest time about the moment that Wash died... had he been scared, or confused, or lost, or in much pain – and did he feel at ease once he actually passed away? Everything she had come up with now seemed to be a complete waste of her thought.
Everything that Inara knew about death was wrong.
“Of course,” she acquiesced, and rushed forward to the walking dead. She wasn’t sure what on him would hurt if she put her hands on him, so she settled for just letting them hover near him in case he stumbled. “This is... it’s a miracle, I...” she trailed off as they moved slowly along, unsure what she was even muttering about.

Zoe felt Wash move closer to her when he spotted Inara and she wondered for a moment if he even remembered who she was. And if so how much. The way his memory had been playing up only moments before, Zoe didn't know what to think.
“Of course,”
Trying frantically to think of a plan, Zoe continued to gently lead Wash further into the ship. Obviously they had to find out what was going on, but Zoe didn't have the faintest idea how to do that. And she wasn't even sure if she wanted to. It was probably very important information, but anything involving bringing back the dead was probably best left alone.
“This is... it’s a miracle, I...”
And that, Zoe realised, was what it all came down to. It didn't matter about the how or the why. What mattered was that she had her Wash back... mostly... at least. "It really is... but it needs to be a miracle inside, out of the rain, and with the captain's knowledge."

Wash took a step back as Inara rushed toward him. It wasn't that he was afraid of her or that he thought anything was less then on spot in regards to her...it was just the rushing that made him feel a bit uncomfortable. He was pleased she opted not to touch and him and just rathered hovered nearby; he could deal with hovering...hovering didn't seem to be a problem and though there were about a handful of witty remarks he could have come up with he stayed silent and his eyes stayed locked on the floor of the ship.
With every step they took which led deeper into the ship Wash felt a sense of normalcy come with it...but it didn't belong to him. Not any longer. He had had his chance at life; at this life and he would be the first to admit that it had been a damn good life. But his turn at it had ended...with a spear through the chest and that had been that. End of sotry...literally.
But that was the problem now wasn't it? The story wasn't exactly ended it was for some reason that was totally beyond him going on and as astounding as it was to have Zoe by him; to see her again and to smell her and...it was wrong and therefor terrifying in its own right.
“This is... it’s a miracle, I..."
Wash looked at Inara for a few moments a piece of mind thinking that somebody would have enjoyed the miracle reference but he couldn't pin point who...no big surprise there.
"It really is... but it needs to be a miracle inside, out of the rain..."
Again with the miracle chatter but Wash was fairly certain miracles didn't involve bringing people long since dead back from the dead. How long had it been? Wash froze for a moment his mind searching for some sort of time frame some sort of fact he could grasp on to as to how long.
"How long have I..."
"...and with the captain's knowledge."
Wash pulled himself from Zoe's grasp and took several steps away from her and Inara. A crack of thunder from outside caught Wash's attention and he spun round his eyes staring wide into the pouring rain and flashing sky. A tremble tore through his body as every nerve ending within him seemed to light on fire with the thunder.
"Anything you've known, believed in or were loyal to is done now...This is your Captain, your God the only one who matters...Do as he says as when he says it and that is all."
Wash's eyes locked back to Zoe fear burning through his blue eyes fear and panic as the world around him was suddenly so loud and so bright and so...
"You will kill for us until..."
Staring down at the blood which was splattered across his clothes and himself the pieces crashed down around him.
He wasn't sure at what point it had happened but Wash found himself on the ground of the ship. The cold metal beneath him bitting into his flesh as his breathing tore through him; labored and panicked as he pushed himself into the smallest corner of the room he could find. He only stopped when his back hit metal. His eyes stared blankly ahead as his entire body trembled.
He had killed somebody. That had to be what it was...he was a killer. The blood...the scream...the body...it had been him...it had to have been him.

"It really is... but it needs to be a miracle inside, out of the rain, and with the captain's knowledge."
Inara nodded in agreement and opened her mouth to utter some form of response, but found that she had no clue what to really say. Everything was happening so fast -- and although she trusted Mal to have a plan and response for everything, she wasn’t so sure that even he would know what to make of it.
When Wash pulled away from Zoe Inara’s hovering hands reached further toward the man instinctively, and she just held them out there, distress clearly spreading across her face. She studied the fear in his eyes and followed his gaze to look anxiously at his wife, and Inara made another desperate attempt at speaking – she wanted to ask what was wrong, what she could do to help, but again, there were no words good enough.
“Wash, it’s alri—” she managed to put in, but she wasn’t even certain that the words would have been true if she had the chance to finish them. Before she even ended the sentence, Wash had crumpled to the floor and pushed himself away in panic.
Immobile, Inara watched him, her eyes filling with tears. “Oh, he’s so frightened!” she thought out loud, touching her delicate fingers to her mouth again.

"How long have I..."
Zoe stumbled as Wash violently pulled himself out of her grip, but managed to keep her footing. She'd said something again, hadn't she, something that made him remember what it was probably better to stay forgotten.
“Oh, he’s so frightened!”
"He's remembering," Zoe said, glancing at Inara. "I don't know what exactly... just that even the simplest of words can set him off."
She edged closer to her husband and knelt down in front of him her hands grasping his face tightly. "Wash, look at me," she said firmly, trying to make eye contact with him. "Everything is okay, you're safe now, I promise."

Wash stared blankly in front of him; barely blinking...barely breathing as he attempted to push away the guilt he felt. Guilt he felt over something eh couldn't even remember but that had to be correct. It had to be; it was the action which made the most sense. After all you didn't become covered in somebody else's blood by accident.
Wash flinched slightly as Zoe's hand clasped his face and his eyes finally locked on hers.
"Wash, look at me. Everything is okay, you're safe now, I promise."
Staring back at her in silence Wash attempted to sort through the millions of thoughts and emotions that were burning through his mind. Trembeling slightly Wash's eyes continued to search those of his wife.
His wife.
She couldn't know. None of them could know. Shaking his head slightly and averting his eyes down to the ground Wash decided there upon the cold metal of Serenity that no matter what he remembered he would keep it to himself. He didn't doubt Zoe's love...but even she had her limits and Wash was rather certain that being a killer was a con for her.
"I'm sorry," Wash whispered his voice barely audible as he forced himself to look back up at Zoe.
He stared into her eyes for several moments remembering as much as he could. The first time he had ever seen her, their wedding, the last time he had seen her...
He wouldn't lose her again.

"He's remembering," Zoe said, glancing at Inara. "I don't know what exactly... just that even the simplest of words can set him off."
Inara looked back to Wash, her watery eyes wide. She could only imagine how terrified the poor man was. As Zoe moved toward him and dropped to his eye level, Inara felt as though it her heart was going to break.
"Wash, look at me, Everything is okay, you're safe now, I promise."
She averted her eyes, feeling a touch awkward – these were private moments, and she was intruding in on them.
"I'm sorry,"
When Wash spoke, she turned her attention back to the couple, unable to avoid looking at them any longer. The way they were staring at each other... the concern and love in Zoe’s expression, and the comfort that Wash seemed to be feeling from her presence... Inara felt very, very sad.
And in this moment, it wasn’t for Wash’s fear and pain. It was for herself. Her own fear, and her own pain.
Touching the back of her hand to her eyes, she took a step toward them. “Take it easy, bao bei,” she said kindly. “We’re going to need you to fly this ship again. Mal is doing terribly.”

"I'm sorry,"
Zoe sighed and shook her head, pleased that he had calmed down for the moment. "It's okay," she assured him, pressing a light kiss to his forhead and touching his cheek gently with the back of her hand before hauling him to his feet.
"Come on, let's get you inside, and cleaned up and well fed," she said coercivelyl... though she doubted she did very well, at least she'd given it a shot.
Take it easy, bao bei, We’re going to need you to fly this ship again. Mal is doing terribly.”
"She's right, you know," Zoe said, managing a smile. "Why do you think we're stuck here?"

Wash held Zoe's eyes as his apology hug in the air.
"It's okay."
For now it was; until he could figure out what sort of horrors he had taken part in...but for now; in this moment it was ok. Wash allowed his eyes to close for a moment as Zoe touched her soft lips against his forhead.
"Come on, let's get you inside, and cleaned up and well fed."
Wash allowed himself to be pulled up to his feet; mostly because he didn;t have it in him to argue with Zoe in regards to the safety of the others as far as he went. Of course that was because she couldn;t know; he would need to sort it out himself.
“Take it easy, bao bei. We’re going to need you to fly this ship again. Mal is doing terribly.”
Wash's eyes settled upon Inara and for several seconds he simply stared back at her. For some reason flying Serenity hadn't dawned on him. Hell he would be lucky if he remembered how to fly; let alone get them off the ground without them all dying in a firey crash.
"She's right, you know. Why do you think we're stuck here?"
Eyes going between Zoe and Inara he allowed the idea to rest within him once more. They didn;t seem to be ready to get rid of him...of course they didn;t know everything but hell neither did he.
"Where are we stuck?" Wash asked realizing that he knew now they were in Serenity but as far as to where they actually were he didn;t have a clue.

"She's right, you know, Why do you think we're stuck here?"
Inara put on her bravest face possible when Wash looked at her; it seemed so rude of her to be acting all heartbroken and sad in general when things were so clearly not about her in the least. It wasn’t like her to be so emotional… in front of others, anyway.
"Where are we stuck?"
“Osiris,” Inara answered quickly, anxious to redeem herself of her odd behaviour. ”We’re not really stuck so much as just… not going anywhere. Mal wanted us to lay low after…” She glanced at Zoe. “after all that we’ve… been through. Lucky we did, though.”
